The Equator

Most of us know that Equator is an imaginary line on the Earth’s surface which divides the Earth into Northern Hemisphere and Southern hemisphere, but we hardly have any idea about the effects of Earth’s rotation on moving objects in these two hemispheres.
Anything which moves in the Northern hemisphere will experience a small turn to the right .
In southern hemisphere it is just opposite . Everything turns to the left . This is called “Coriolis effect.” This force is not effective on the Eqator itself .The coriolis force is zero here.

Eqator runs through Central Africa and many other places of the world dividing the Earth in two equal halves .

Recently we went to Nairobi –capital city of the Republic of Kenya . From there we went to Nanyuki town which is situated on the Equator- to experience this coriolis effect . There we came across a board where it was written that the Equator passes through this place which has latitude = ‘0’. That means we were standing on zero zone.
It was really very interesting to go through such a new experience. We don’t know many mysteries of our planet Earth . This was one of them .

One teacher was present there to explain “Coriolis effect” to us. He took the help of a bucket of water , a small stick and a funnel.

In Equator region he poured some water into the funnel closing it’s other end tightly and put the stick into it . Next he released the water from the other end. The water moved down steadily . The floating stick remained in a horizontal position into the water. It moved neither to the right nor to the left . As coriolis force was not effective there .

Now the teacher walked further- twenty feet away from the zero zone towards North . Again he poured some water into the funnel and put the stick into the water. Here a strange thing happened . While releasing the water from the other end the stick into the water immediately turned to the right and moved in a clockwise manner. The teacher said it happened due to Earth’s rotation . Earth rotates from east to west. ,so the tendency for any moving body on or above the earth’s surface such as a water current, is to drift sideways from its course.

The teacher came back to the zero zone again .

Next moment he stepped towards Southern Hemisphere to go further- twenty feet away from zero position . He repeated the same task again . This time the stick into the water turned left to move -in just opposite direction , in anti-clockwise manner .

We were really very surprised. Why this difference at all?
We were curious to know about this Coriolis theory and why it happened at twenty feet away from Latitude=”O” .
Later we realized that a minimum distance is needed to see this effect very clearly . The Coriolis effect cannot be experienced significantly from very near to the equater , though it starts from there only . This deflective effectis are present on all free-moving objects including the atmosphere and oceans

Coriolis force is a concequence of inertia ( acts by an. external force). On the earth an object that moves along a north-south path or longitudinal line, , will undergo apparent deflection to the right in the Northern Hemisphere and to the left in the Southern Hemisphere . There are two reasons for that :
Firstly earth rotates eastward. Secondly the tangential velocity of a point on the earth is a function of latitude .(This velocity is essentially zero at the poles and it attains a maximum value at the equator). The Coriolis deflection is therefore related to the motion of the object and the roation of the earth.
Coriolis force is proportional to the speed of rotation of the Earth . For further informations : ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coriolis_effect ) can help us .

ATAH KIM! HARI OM!

He is dead! It’s been confirmed that he is dead. The body has finally been discovered from the very room which had been a special place in his heart. Extremely sad!

It is evident that it was not a normal death. Poor fellow must have suffered a lot before dying. He had actually been murdered, brutally murdered, this very morning.

Despite his many insensible activities no one really wished him to go this way. Everybody wanted him to leave the house peacefully -no war, no violence,no unpleasant situations-nothing,

but his inflexible attitudes were the causes of this misfortune. I call it a disaster – an incredible disaster!

How miserable he looked. Blood oozing from his mouth, his body nearly crushed lying innocently on the floor of his own room- the one in which he demanded to stay in forever.

Since last few months we have been staying together in this house. There was no way of meeting him during the day. He was always busy outdoors. Not sure where all he went. No one had any idea about his whereabouts but in the evenings he was available - very much at home only.

There was still something peculiar about him. At night he would become particularly frisky - loitering here and there without any obvious purpose. Infact as the night progressed his movements became more and more frenetic He was a live wire moving at lightning speed, never at one place for more than a second. It was impossible to trace him in the house after midnight or so. Now wasn’t that strange!

Though he was not very friendly, we cannot deny the fact that he was very intelligent and very intuitive. He always took great interests in people and their belongings. He had a special love and inquisitiveness for everything around him. He was also so energetic, not the retiring sort but happiest when we were not around him.

Despite of all his strange habits his depressing death is very saddening. He seemed to be in search for something…something he was denied of and we unfortunately couldn’t give him- probably a sense of peace and security that he was looking for within the four walls of our house.

The problem was that we were not ready to accept him as he was. We never really got along because our perspectives were so different. We felt his peculiar instincts were irrational, animalistic. He on the other hand found us far too rational for his comfort.

Sometimes he got mad and wild especially when he thought he was being disliked by us or we had ceased to love him. He was growing increasingly sensitive to us and our reactions these days.

The way we saw it- his endeavors, his dedications and his success were only geared to his own happiness - not for the services of the others. Perhaps he was lacking a spiritual insight. Perhaps he was just ignorant about what was right and wrong, good or bad. We were uncomfortable with his out look to life and his self centered ways. We had little knowledge of the forces acting within him - powerful forces that he couldn’t help but always released with violent anger, hatred, and malice. His actions seemed to be directed towards inflicting maximum harm to us. We felt so miserable too!

However now we miss him. It is hard to believe that we shall not see him any more from tomorrow. He has left behind many old memories of those days when we lived together. This sudden separation has created a vacuum.
We realize that we can’t really accuse him for anything. None of us are free from our limitations. We realize he did things what he felt was his birthright but only thing was he obviously couldn’t evaluate the whole situation correctly.

The brutality of his death has however taken away all the ill feelings against him and we are washed with pain and remorse now.
We intend to do something special for this special fellow so that his soul can rest in peace. He didn’t ask for to be pardoned. What he did was very natural from his standpoint. We should not have judged him so ruthlessly.

Now despite everything we have experienced we want a solemn conventional ritual in his remembrance and sincere prayer service for his soul.

We have arranged for flowers, garlands, photo frame, incenses, diyas and last but not the least- a wise Brahmin.
Pujary has just reached and started the prayer service. We have all gathered with folded hands and deep sorrow in our heart.
He asks for his ‘Gotra’, caste, creed, inclination and other details of him. Was he a Norway type (brown, heavier, larger ears, longer feet, tail size) or the Native type (black, long thin tail, pointed snout etc).Giant sized, small sized or medium sized. Shorter headed or tiny sparrow sized. Came from Ship, Field or, House . Was it a dormouse, a smoky or the spiny type?

We are all ignorant!

“Unless you furnish me with all the details , the ritual will remain incomplete .Hurry up! get all informations correctly. I will wait for a while.”
